The Grant Writer Manager will be responsible for advancing Fair Food Networks’ mission by securing grants from corporations, foundations, individuals, and government agencies. Specifically, this staff is responsible for proactively leading the grant and report writing for both unrestricted operating revenue and restricted projects, ensuring timely, accurate, and high-quality delivery. This collaborative, self-starter will thrive in a team environment working in close coordination with the executive, development, and program staff. They must bring proven experience in grant writing and project management alongside an intellectual curiosity and nimble adaptability that thrives in a dynamic and evolving organization.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain current grant portfolio, including facilitating grant process and progress (e.g. grant end dates, geographic restrictions, commitments, etc.). Take a pro-active role in funder strategy, including the development of cultivation and stewardship plans, and actively contribute to complex funder strategy.
  • Write high-quality, concise, and compelling proposals and project manage all aspects of preparation, submission, and tracking. Includes leading coordination with key staff, writing, preparing and formatting applications and supporting documents, and monitoring submitted, pending proposals.
  • Research potential funding organizations and requirements.
  • Track and execute grants and reports against all upcoming proposal and reporting deadlines and requirements, proactively communicating with team when changes or adjustments are needed.
  • Review grant agreements for requirements, notify teams of new grants received, and monitor grant end dates for reapplication.
  • Identify all grant reporting requirements from foundation/corporate donors and write, manage, and submit all necessary reports.
  • In collaboration with relationship managers, interact with funding organizations building positive relationships with existing and potential funders.
  • Utilize existing departmental systems, processes, and tools to maintain organized and complete records of past and current proposals for future reference purposes.
  • Interface, communicate, and collaborate with individuals at all levels in the organization to develop and revise content, answer questions, identify supporting data, and address feedback for proposals and reports.
  • Develop a deep understanding of organization and program content to ensure integrity and quality proposal and report writing.

What You’ll Need

  • 4 years relevant experience
  • Track record securing significant multi-year commitments from foundations
  • Demonstrated writing, research, project management, and organizational skills with strong attention to detail
  • Intellectual curiosity with ability to learn quickly, ask thoughtful questions, and synthesize various input in a clear and compelling way
  • Ability to manage time and balance competing deadlines while delivering quality results
  • Collaborative self-starter with ability to work independently while fostering a cooperative environment
  • Adaptable team player with ability to gracefully pivot and remain solutions-oriented in an innovative work environment

  • Familiar with CRMs (Salesforce) and other fundraising technologies and platforms preferred

Join Us!

This position is based in our Ann Arbor office with potential to work from our Detroit office 1-2 days a week. They will initially report to Fair Food Network’s Senior Director of External Affairs, Emilie Engelhard, transitioning to a Director of Development when that position is filled. Salary starts at $48,000 and is commensurate with experience.
